Facade

I see you’ve changed.

You’re nothing like the one I used to know. I see you’ve worked hard to start over again. You’ve got a new life, new friends, new everything.

You must be proud of yourself.

I see you’ve put on a mask too.

The mask looks a lot like you yet it isn’t real. They think it’s who you are. I know better. I always have.

You try so hard to hide it all but it’s pointless..

The day comes and you see me after all these years.

You crack.

Now there’s the one I used to know.

What's Left

“So this is what’s left?”

You nod. “Pretty much.”

I say nothing in reply, merely looking at the worn down walls and ceiling, the protruding pieces of wood and glass, the distinct smell of something wasting away. The place is still up and standing but even the slightest disturbance can turn it into rubble it seems. I can still remember how beautiful this has once been. You do too, judging by that sentimental gleam in your eyes.

We grew up here; you and me.

“So this is what’s left of our childhood,” I say.

“Yeah.” You nod again. “Nearly nothing.”

Journey

He didn’t come.

Laura could feel the bitterness coursing through her yet she fought in vain not to let it show. This was supposed to be their new beginning, the start of their freedom and new life. Now, it seemed like she was to go on alone.

He probably didn’t love her enough.

She sniffed as she began walking, finding a vacant seat to take. She couldn’t find any.

She opened the door to the next section and there he was, seated, waiting for her.

Laura looked at him for a good minute, waiting for him to disappear.

He didn’t.

A Kiss in The Shadows

He hides in the shadows, waiting.

It seems fit where he is. After all, she’s been his little secret, his favourite sin. He knows by the time he leaves, there will be no more kisses in the shadows, cuddling in the dark, falling in love behind everyone’s backs.

She arrives minutes later and even without words, he knows it really is the end. Her eyes are sad even as she smiles. He tries to ignore the tears in her eyes, wanting his last memory of her to be her smile.

She bestows one last kiss and they’re back to strangers.

Snow

on Thursday, April 25, 2013

She feels herself weakening.

She sees her vision blurring.

She feels herself turning.

She is madly shivering and she wraps her arms around herself in a pointless attempt to warm herself.

The snow is cold, unrelenting and continuous as it rains down on her weak form. But she doesn’t move away at all. She stays where she is, where she has been for the past hour.

She feels more and more exhausted.

She feels herself wavering, faltering.

But all these have nothing on what her heart is currently feeling.

So this is how it feels like to be stood up.
