He was a bad guy.
He was just different.
Depending on who was
being asked
He was bad – bad for
her, they said.
“You could do better,”
they said. “How could you love someone like him?”
“Why?” They asked. “Why?”
She took one look at
him and smiled.
It was the way he stopped
smoking when he found out she didn’t like guys who did.
It was the way he
tried to be better, if only to see her smile.
It was the way he
wanted to be perfect for her, even when she didn’t want perfect.
That was why.
