Anywhere

France has the Eiffel Tower.

New York has the Statue of Liberty

London has the Palace of Westminster

Each place has something unique and different that distinguishes one from the other.

Life supposedly differs from one place to another. One is peaceful. One is wild. One is rural. One is urban.

Yet, anywhere he goes, it feels like nothing is different. Anywhere he goes, he lives the same. Anywhere he goes, he sees buildings, streets, cars, public transport, street signs, people going about their own lives. Anywhere he goes, he still remembers her.

No place is too different after all.

The Lady in Red

She was the lady in red.

Out of all the hazy memories he had, it was that he was most certain. She was the lady in red.

He remembered dancing her, gliding and twirling around effortlessly on the dance floor. He remembered thinking about how grand of a pair they must’ve looked throughout the party with him looking dapper in his suit and her looking captivating in red. He remembered that her lips had matched her gown and that she had the most brilliant of smiles.

But he got drunk.

And now that was all he could remember of her.

Dandelion

on Friday, May 3, 2013

I am the ugly duckling.

I’ve watched as boy after boy came up to my two sisters, asking them for a dance or striking a conversation with them. I’ve watched as their cheeks blushed prettily; their giggles easily escaping their lips. I feel no envy.

I’ve been used to it. After all, they are such roses. I’m a mere dandelion.

It no longer bothers me how I’m always overlooked. It’s always been that way.

Up until you arrived and noticed me, anyway.

“Don’t you want a rose?” I ask you out of the blue.

“Why would I? Roses have thorns.”

Going Back

“I really like it here.” I murmured as I gazed out at the view. “It’s so peaceful and beautiful and… just amazing.”

“I think so too.” You agreed quietly, wrapping your arms around my waist.”

I sighed. “I’ll miss this.”

You nodded. “Me too.”

“Can’t we stay longer?” I tried my luck.

“We’ll go back.” You told me solemnly, knowing how much I’ve come to love this place. “We’ll come back soon.”

“Promise?”

“I promise.”

I came back.

But you didn’t.

And it isn’t the same.

It’s not as peaceful.

It’s not as beautiful.

It’s not as amazing

Not anymore

How to Break A Heart

“People can hurt you, but only if you allow them to.”

“Doing that… It’s like asking someone not to care about someone else.”

She shrugged. “Caring gets you hurt, doesn’t it?”

I considered it for a moment. “It does.”

“Your heart is yours. You should take care of it.” A beat passed. “And not give it someone else only for that person to break it.”

“You really think so?”

“Why do you think I’m single?”

I nodded but gave no verbal reply.

“But my heart’s already broken.” I wanted to tell her. “You broke it and you didn’t even know.”
